One Month/Two Years
Felix turned 1 month old on Sunday, and we celebrated with a picnic at Laurelhurst Park. The sun was shining, and we had Pine State biscuit sandwiches and lemonade in Mason jars--a great way to celebrate Felix's first little milestone.

And here are some recent orange chair pictures, at 3 and 4 weeks old:

We also celebrated a big milestone for Arlo a few weeks ago--he turned 2!

We had a low-key birthday party a few days before my mom headed home, and Arlo's Grandpa Rick and Sunnie flew up from CA to help celebrate and meet Felix.

My mom (who was such a big help during her visit!) made yummy cupcakes for the party. There was a little confusion regarding the birthday candles--we'd forgotten to tell Arlo about them in advance, and he didn't know what to do with them. Luckily, his Nana stopped him from touching the flames and then helped him blow them out.

On Arlo's actual birthday, inspired by Happy Birthday, Little Pookie, Patrick made Arlo a piggy pancake for breakfast, and later they went and got a balloon. Patrick also marked Arlo's height on our kitchen door frame. Yay for starting new birthday traditions!

Arlo is awesome--he talks a lot and says such funny things. He also does normal 2-year-old stuff, like testing limits and breaking rules, but I really can't complain. He's a good kid, and most of the time he's super helpful and cooperative.

Arlo has been really sweet with Felix so far. At first, he was hesitant to touch Felix and seemed nervous around him, but he has been warming up to him. He likes to help bathe Felix, and he'll frequently touch his head and say "Not so much hair." When Felix cries, Arlo looks worried and says "Baby brother crying; Arlo so sleepy" (he uses "sleepy" to describe any unpleasant emotion, like being sad, nervous, or embarrassed).

My mom stayed with us for the first two weeks after Felix was born, and now Patrick is taking four weeks off to take care of Arlo while I finish recovering from my C-section (I'm not supposed to lift more than 20 lb for the first 6 weeks, and Arlo weighs 28 lb). He'll go back to work in a week and a half. I feel so lucky that he has been able to take so much time off. He has been doing all sorts of fun outings with Arlo--biking to parks, going swimming, riding the bus, visiting the zoo--all of the things I didn't have the energy to do when I was pregnant and probably won't be able to do when Patrick is back at work and it's just me and two kids (of course, then I think of the mom we saw at the zoo yesterday wrangling 6 kids on her own, and I feel like a wuss for being worried about taking care of a measly two).
Felix has been an easy baby so far, and we've been trying hard to enjoy his tiny baby stage while it lasts. He is becoming more alert during the day and sleeping for at least one 4-hour block at night (we even got 6 hours a few nights ago!). Yay! For the time being, we have him in a co-sleeper in our bedroom, and Arlo hasn't been bothered by Felix's middle-of-the-night crying, which is great (hopefully this will still be the case when they share a room in a few months). I want to work on getting Felix to nap in his bassinet during the day--currently, he'll only sleep happily when he's being held. Arlo was the same way at this age, but it wasn't really an issue, since there wasn't an older sibling to take care of. It may be too early to expect Felix to be happy in the bassinet, but it seems worth a try, since it would free me up to give Arlo more attention. Until then, I think Felix will be spending a lot of time in the Sleepy Wrap (aka Boba Baby Wrap), same as his big brother did!
