Two Weeks Old

Felix is two weeks old!

Things are going really well so far. He has been breastfeeding without any problems, which is such a relief. At his two-week checkup, he already weighed 15oz more than his birthweight. Since we haven't had to spend time pumping, trying different feeding methods, and seeing lactation consultants this time around, we've had lots more time to rest and just enjoy our new baby. It's so nice! With my mom here to take care of Arlo, I've been able to nap as often as I want and just enjoy spending time with Felix. Having a sleeping newborn curled up on your chest is the best thing ever!

My C-section recovery is also going much more smoothly this time around. I think the secret is that I'm still taking my pain meds. With Arlo, I was worried about taking oxycodone for too long, so I stopped taking it when we came home from the hospital, and I stopped taking the ibuprofen two weeks after that. In retrospect, this might not have been the best idea--I spent a lot of those first six weeks in pain, stuck in bed. This time around, I've been taking the painkillers that the doctors prescribed, and I'm much more mobile and in hardly any pain (surprise!). I've been taking daily mini-walks with Felix in the carrier, working on adding more distance every day. It's so nice to get outside!

I think I've been having a couple mild side effects from the epidural--my lower back is still a tiny bit numb, and it was itchy for the first week, but that has gone away now. Otherwise, I feel great!

Two Babies

Arlo has responded really well to Felix so far. He's not super interested in him, since Felix sleeps so much, but he likes to talk to us about what "baby bruvver Fenix" is doing, and he gets worried when Felix cries (which, luckily, isn't very often at this point). I think he's still a little young to be excited about being a big brother, but hopefully that will come with time, once Felix is a little more fun to interact with.

Oh, and a little background on Felix's name--Felix was one of my top two names (the other one was Linus, but Patrick wasn't as excited about that one). I like the meaning ("happy"), and I think it goes well with Arthur. It's an old man name that's making a comeback but isn't hugely popular yet. Felix's middle name, Marshall, is in honor of Patrick's mom, Maureen. We briefly considered just using Maureen as his middle name (I think it would be kind of awesome!), but we decided to spare him the middle school taunting and give him a more gender-appropriate middle name.

The first few days after Felix was born, I kept accidentally calling him "Arlo," since that was the default baby name in my head. Now that we're home, I'm doing a better job of calling him by the right name. He's such a sweet little bundle!
